MarineMax Vacations is doing it again, with big savings on their fleet of power and sailboats in the British Virgins.

Charter the MarineMax 484, a gorgeous four stateroom 48-ft. powercat (left), which has such amenities as a watermaker (no more buying water!!) and free wifi.  Save $750 right off the top for charters between February 25 and March 15, or the entire month of May (1-31).  If you're a repeat charter client, take another 5% off!

From April 2-15, take 10% off their 484 or 382 powercats and, if you'd rather sail, choose one of the MarineMax 433s and get either a free day or 15% off the charter cost, but you must book by March 31.

Get Out The Vote For Bitter End!!

The folks at Wight Vodka, that sailor's vodka from England, wants your vote for the best yachting bar.  Past winners have included Soggy Dollar on Jost Van Dyke in the BVIs, but that's the only BVI winner in the six years of the contest.  C'mon!!  We all know the BVIs have great pubs so let's get out the vote!

This year there are two bars on the ballot in the BVIs: Bitter End Yacht Club on Virgin Gorda and Pirate's Bight on Norman Island.

While we don't want to rig the voting (well, yes we do), we'd like to encourage you to vote for Bitter End.  It's practically a homeport for bareboaters, the marina is friendly and accommodating, and they have lots of mooring balls available.  And it's a family atmosphere, which you don't find at Pirate's Bight as the evening wears on.

So the official CharterSavvy recommendation for your vote is Bitter End Yacht Club.  Get your ballot at (just click on the link!) and do it soon because voting ends on December 30.

Ducking Hurricanes In The BVIs

Now in the middle of the Atlantic hurricane season, and with hurricanes already named up to Fred, perhaps you're wondering what the bareboat charter companies do to prepare when they see a hurricane on the horizon.

Gino Morrelli, of the famed multihull design team of Morrelli and Melvin, snapped this photo of Parequita Bay on Tortola when the fleet was preparing for a hurricane.  The entrance is narrow, and the boats are all secured to heavy cables, although no one really knows what would happen if a serious hurricane hit this particular "hurricane hole".  Interestingly enough, many of the cats lined up in this bay are Morrelli and Melvin designs!
