Bareboater Heaven: Foxy's Reopens New Years!

Bareboaters have embraced the annual New Year's Day craziness at Foxy's Tamarind Bar for years, until Foxy's waterfront pub was trashed by the hurricanes of last year.

The good news is that Foxy is combining his New Year's Day festivities with a Grand Re-Opening for Foxy's Taboo, which is located at Diamond Cay on the East End of Jost Van Dyke.

Apparently one night (New Year's Eve) isn't enough, so Foxy has billed the next day as a Float-illa, encouraging everyone to bring their beach floats.  Food and drink specials will run all day and, of course, there has to be a bikini contest.

Not only has Foxy's Taboo been renovated, but there is a new improved version, complete with an all-new dinghy dock.  Don't miss it!

Bareboating Icon Departs...Again!!

Not long ago, we wrote the good news that the Willy T, famed floating restaurant and pub, had been replaced after the original was driven ashore in last year’s hurricanes and wrecked.

Then we had to amend that story, when the Willy T was kicked off from Norman Island when it was offending a development being built on shore.  But the good news was that it was welcomed at Peter Island, just a bit away.

But now the tide has changed and Peter Island has given the Willy T just three months to depart and find another place to drop its hook. Peter Island apparently filed a complaint with the BVI Department of Trade and Consumer Affairs.

At this point, no one knows where the Willy T will end up.  Co-owner Ewan Anderson says they are “in limbo” and frustrated because they’ve been a tourist attraction and bareboat icon for 35 years.  There are rumors that Willy T may leave the BVIs for good.  We’ll keep you posted!

Bareboaters Rejoice! Cooper Island Open Again!

The popular Cooper Island Beach Club in the British Virgin Islands is now officially open for the season.  The club, which rebuilt and reopened during the summer after the devastating hurricanes of last year, is now officially reopened, including the boutique hotel.

More important to bareboaters, however, is the outstanding restaurant with its deck, a micro-brewery, and its famous rum bar that has one of the world's largest collections of cane spirits.  Aside from its array of rums from across the West Indies, it has the famed Black Tot, the last of the British Royal Naval Rums.  The restaurant is serving lunch and dinner, while the Coffee Box cafe is open daily from 8-4:30.  Great anchorage offshore, too.
